I don't know what this movie is, but the poster sure is somethin'.

I loved the movie - it's nothing brilliant, just a silly romp, but my boys and I doubled over laughing, which is really rare - few comedies do it for us at all, and only the rarest of the rare make us laugh like we're hyenas. That said, before you watch it, I should warn you that two of my good friends to whom I recommended it, HATED it with a passion. One of them stopped watching after 15 minutes and the other said he sat through it all in pain the whole time. In the film's defense, both of them have seen a lot of other movies with Anna Faris, a lot of stupid, stupid movies she's been in (all those high school-ish spoof movies, apparently. I haven't seen any of them), and they could possibly just be associating her with that trash, which kinda tainted them against this one from the outset. If you get a chance, it's at least worth a rental and if you hate it, you can always press "stop". I hope you love it as much as I did, though!

Hmm, I'm going to check it out. :-) sounds like it could be pretty good if I gave it a chance!

I generally find that stoner movies annoy the hell out of me and are typically vapid and trite with poor attempts at humor, usually relying on the audience being so baked, they find damn near anything funny. This one, however, cracked my ass up somethin' fierce. The next day, I was literally sore from laughing. This is the first time I've ever seen Anna Faris in anything, but I found her to be absolutely adorable and endearing. I love the casual and silly plot, accompanied with the fun spin on the inspirational ending. Tons of fun.

I've heard good things about this movie and bad things about it but I really wanna see it because it's another Gregg Araki movie. And he's awesome in the worst way.

Yeah, he really is awesome in the worst way. His last few films have been a lot more polished and this one is in that vein. I miss his rough, guerrilla filmmaking style, but I also appreciate that he's really grown and developed as an artist.

Netflix recommended it to me because I apparently enjoy other stoner movies. I haven't touched weed since 1984 though, when I was starting to consider becoming a mom and knew a lot of pregnant ladies who toked all through their pregnancy. I just thought that wasn't right--the baby didn't have a choice!

I don't think you need to be high to enjoy this movie, really. I wouldn't really put it in the same category as most stoner movies, which I tend to hate.

That looks like it might be fun. I like silly comedies as long as they're not stupid. I love 80's comedies and things like that. Anna Faris was good in Waiting.

It's worth renting, at least and like I said before, if you find you hate it, you can turn it off. I hope you like it!

I wanted to love this movie because of the director, Anna Faris (who saves every terrible movie she does), and John Krasinski but I hated it. Maybe it was because I watched it by myself, I tend to like comedies less in that situation, but I shouldn't be checking the clock while watching a movie. A lot of stoner movies I don't find funny either, so I figured being stoned might be what I needed to find it funnier. Nope, still stupid. I would have given it a lower score than I did but the movie let me see Jim from the Office masturbating in the shower.

I'm really baffled at people's hatred of this movie. The boys and I got it because we love Araki and we laughed our asses off, not stoned. Maybe you're right - maybe you just need to watch it with people, though it's probably too late in your case as you've already sat through and hated it.

I saw this film stoned in my favorite theater in Hollywood with two of my best friends. Anna Faris was in attendance, and it was a packed house. The script's original title, The Being John Malkovich of Pot Comedies, should've stuck. I laughed so hard I was crying, and I cried so hard I had to hide my face. The Garfield monologue in particular was a moment of great personal shame for the noises I made.

And Anna Faris' performance is downright method. And I loved (as she herself professed admiration for) that her character Jane wasn't a slut or a doormat, and didn't require a man in order to be happy in life. I'd only ever seen Anna Faris in Lost in Translation, and thought her performance there was a bright spot in a fucking dull (and somewhat racist) film. But I positively adored her and this movie, I own it now, and I continue to be befuddled that so many hate it. And yes, I do believe Gregg Araki's impeccable direction (as fucking ALWAYS) elevates what is already incredibly clever material into something golden. Even if you get all the jokes, there are shots in that film that you literally are not meant to understand or react to unless you're stoned.

I also think this is testament to the truth that movies deserve watching in groups. Even if it's just two people, and especially if it's a comedy. There's something imbued in our psyche that responds to entertainment more with company, and you really deprive yourself of anything nearing a true moviegoing experience when you watch flicks for the first time alone. I'm not talking about rewatching a film, because even then you remember what it felt like to share that space and those scenes with other folks. It's like sex: if there's only one person involved, you're just playing with yourself.

That or some of you just don't enjoy stoner comedy. In which case you can pretty much continue living your life ignorant of fun. Whoa, man, harsh.

(And P.S., M-A, I hope you get the chance to see Mysterious Skin in a theater if you haven't yet. It is just a beautiful and devastating work of art.)

Bitch, I've been watching Araki films since you were in Junior High. I had the Mysterious Skin DVD on pre-order as soon as Amazon listed it.

That said, you're the second person who I've heard call Lost in Translation racist. I don't feel that I agree - perhaps because I have never been to Japan, I can't really comment on how accurate or offensive it it, but I find that movie beautiful.
